The oil needs to be change, windshield wiper fluid added, tire pressure should be checked, and the list of items continues. Your car needs a lot of attention to continue to work properly. Before you become a car owner you should make yourself aware of many common maintenance issues that can arise. One common thing you should know when owning a car is how to jump start your car.
If you happen to leave on your head lights on while you are in a store, when you return to your car, it will mostly not start. The battery usage of your lights will drain your cars battery. This will leave no battery power to get your car started. This is a common occurrence so you should be prepared to fix the problem. Learning how to jump start you car is an easy process. Below we will discuss the process for jump starting your car.
4 Steps To Jump Starting Your Car
1. When you have another vehicle available to complete a jump start, have the other car within a very close distant of your car. A common practice for placement of the cars is parking them with the front bumpers facing each other. This will ensure that the jumper cables will be able to reach between the cars. Even though your cars need to be in close proximity you need to make sure they are not touching each other.
2. You will need to have or obtain a pair of jumper cables. These cables will allow you to connect to another car for a jump start. Without the cables you will not be able restart your car. These cables can be purchased for a low price usually around twenty dollars.
3. Next you will need to connect your car with another car that will start. You will need to connect the positive with the red clamp and the negative with the black clamp. Once you have properly connected the cables with a car that will run you are almost finished.
4. After correctly connecting the two cars, start the working car. Once the car is started you should allow it to run for five to fifteen minutes. After you have allowed ample time for the other car to run you should attempt to start your car. If everything works correctly your car should start. After your car starts you should allow it to run for a few minutes to charge the battery thoroughly.
Starting your car with jumper cables is a simple process, but if you have no idea what you are doing and are caught off guard, it can become a huge inconvenience. Waiting for hours on a road side service can be dangerous and waste your time. It is easy to prepare yourself for car maintenance. Knowing how to properly care for your car on your own will save you time and money.
